The Dresden SC women's volleyball team narrowly lost the top match in the Bundesliga 2:3 (25:20, 21:25, 19:25, 25:15, 12:15) at defending champions Allianz MTV Stuttgart after a tough battle. This was the first defeat for the team from the city on the Elbe after six wins in a row. At least the league leaders were able to take home one point and defend their top position.
Both teams fought a tough exchange of blows from the start with numerous long rallies at eye level. In the first set, the visitors were powerful on serve and more effective in attack in front of 2,251 spectators in a sold-out arena. Dresden were also 14:11 ahead in the second set, but the MTV women turned up the heat after a double changeover on the Stuttgart side and equalized the set. The champions picked up where they left off in the third period, while Waibl's team lost the thread of the game somewhat.
However, the visitors from Saxony did not give up and quickly pulled eight points (10:2) ahead in the fourth. Whereas Stuttgart made numerous mistakes in serving and attacking, the DSC women stepped up the pressure, made more consistent use of their chances and fought tirelessly in defense. The game went into a tie-break, in which the home side pulled four points clear by the final change of ends. After the DSC fought back to 11:12, the team made a few easy mistakes and Stuttgart was able to celebrate victory after 124 minutes.
