Dynamo Dresden can no longer win at home. They also drew again against Rot-Weiß Essen.

Dynamo Dresden failed to move to within one point of third division leaders SV Sandhausen. The team coached by Thomas Stamm also failed to score in their third home game in a row and had to settle for a 3:3 (0:1) draw against Rot-Weiss Essen.

Manuel Wintzheimer (37th minute) had put the visitors ahead after a counter-attack. In front of 29,836 spectators, Niklas Hauptmann equalized immediately after the restart. On the counter-attack (47'), Julian Eitschberger scored a solo goal to give the visitors the lead immediately.

Jonas Sterner (78') equalized again before Kelsey Owusu Meisel (80') scored what was supposed to be Essen's winning goal. However, Stefan Kutschke scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure a deserved draw.

Dresden's insecurity after the negative experiences of recent weeks was palpable. The Dynamos were unable to come up with much against the visitors, who played with nine outfield players in front of or in their own penalty area. Attempts to cross to Christoph Daferner were headed away by the tall central defense around Michael Schultz and former Dresden player Tobias Kraulich, and the crosses were often too inaccurate.

After 25 minutes, the hosts therefore tried their luck with long-range shots, which rarely got through. As a result, there were only two notable Dresden opportunities from attempts by former Essen player Vinko Sapina (28th, 33rd).

Essen with better chances

Essen had little to offer offensively. However, when RWE appeared in front of Tim Schreiber's goal, it was dangerous. A free-kick from Ahmet Arslan (15th) went just wide of the box, while Ramien Safi missed the target from a free position in stoppage time. The visitors took the lead from a counter-attack, in which Safi first failed to beat Schreiber and Wintzheimer then only had to slot home the rebound.

Spectacular restart after the break

After the break, things got wild. Hauptmann equalized with Dresden's first attack. The hosts celebrated too much, allowing Eitschberger to march off from the kick-off and finish.

Now, however, the pace was in the game. Dynamo often came down the flanks and outplayed the Essen defense. Nevertheless, it took until the 78th minute before Sterner equalized after a fine solo run, despite having the upper hand.

But just like after the 1:1, Essen immediately had a quick response due to a defensive error. Dynamo equalized with the last action of the game.
