Saxony has already approved more wind turbines in the first nine months of this year than in the entire previous year. In the first three quarters, permits have been issued for 24 wind turbines with a capacity of around 140 megawatts, as announced by the Ministry of Energy in Dresden on Tuesday. In the same period, 85 turbines with a capacity of 481 megawatts were also in the approval process. By comparison, according to the ministry, the construction of 20 turbines with a capacity of 101 megawatts was approved in 2022.

According to Energy Minister Wolfram Günther, the figures show that the expansion of wind energy is continuing to gain momentum. "We have turned Saxony around in this legislature, from a brown coal state, in which every new wind turbine was sometimes seen as a threat to the Saxon energy sector, to a climate-neutral energy and industrial state," said the Green politician according to the press release.

The specialist agency for onshore wind energy recently reported that the number of wind turbines in Saxony had fallen in the first three quarters. From January to the end of September, four new wind turbines were put into operation. In the same period, 13 turbines were decommissioned. However, the number of permits for new wind turbines also increased according to the figures from the specialist agency.
