The Saxon Refugee Council is concerned about the fate of a Russian living in Dresden. The brother of a dissident is threatened with deportation from the Free State, the association announced in Dresden on Thursday. A return to Russia seems just as impossible for him as a new life in Poland, where he is to be deported. According to the Refugee Council, there were no prospects for the man there, which is why he traveled on to Saxony. In Poland, he had experienced discrimination as a refugee.
The Council has now called for families and relatives of Russian dissidents in Germany to be given the prospect of staying. "Threatening them with deportation is not only a catastrophe for those affected, but also sends the signal to activists living in Russia: 'You are not safe in Western Europe either' - which can only please the Kremlin," it said.
