The trend in reported respiratory infections in Saxony continues to decline. However, viruses are still circulating - and further deaths are also being reported.

Saxony's health authorities are registering fewer and fewer respiratory diseases. For the first week of April, the State Investigation Institute recorded a 42 percent drop in cases of influenza, a 22 percent drop in cases of coronavirus and a 10 percent drop in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections.

Between May 31 and April 6, 627 new cases of influenza were reported. All age groups are affected, currently mainly young children, younger schoolchildren and adults. In addition, 481 cases of RSV infections and 40 coronavirus infections were reported.

Tens of thousands of cases and 400 deaths in total

In the current flu season from the beginning of October last year to April 6, 43,724 cases of influenza were registered nationwide, as well as 15,266 coronavirus infections and 7,105 RSV infections, according to the LUA. A total of 400 people between the ages of 6 and 99 died - most of them from a SARS-CoV-2 infection with 217, 9 from RSV and 174 from influenza.
