A gymnasium in Plauen has been completely closed due to a massive mouse infestation. A city spokeswoman said that the pest control measures used so far had not been effective enough.
At present, it is not possible to estimate how many mice are in the hall. Litter and poison had been placed under the gym floor, the spokeswoman said. As the poison is now also to be placed in the upper area of the gym, the gym will be closed until the end of the year. The baits are very poisonous and too dangerous with children in the gym, according to a city spokeswoman. A decision on how to proceed will be made in the first week of January.
The Montessori school in Plauen and the SG Jößnitz club are affected by the closure. According to the city, they support the decision. There is currently no alternative site. The city says it is looking into other options.
