The number of motorhomes in Saxony has more than tripled in the last 10 years. At the beginning of the year, almost 29,000 were registered, while in 2014 there were only around 8,400, according to data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority. Last year alone, almost 2,500 vehicles were added, bringing the current figure to 7.1 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants. This puts the Free State at the bottom of the league nationwide. Only in Berlin (5.1) and Saxony-Anhalt (6.1) is the rate lower. The highest density of motorhomes is in Schleswig-Holstein (19.2), followed at a considerable distance by Lower Saxony (12.8) and Bavaria (12.7). In Germany as a whole, 908,000 motorhomes are registered, i.e. 10.8 per 1000 inhabitants.

Within Saxony, the state capital Dresden is ahead in absolute terms (4068 registered motorhomes). However, the registration district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge (9.2) has the most vehicles per 1000 inhabitants. It is followed by Meißen (8.1), the district of Leipzig (7.7) and Central Saxony (7.6). Dresden, Bautzen (both 7.2), Zwickau, the Vogtland district (both 7.1) and North Saxony (7) form the midfield. At the bottom of the table are the Erzgebirgskreis (6.7), Görlitz (6.5) and Chemnitz (6.1), with Leipzig at the bottom (5.8). Nationwide, the range extends from 26.6 in Schleswig-Flensburg to Offenbach (3.5).
