A new master plan prescribes steps towards climate neutrality for the state administration in Bavaria. This affects, for example, the energy supply and the vehicle fleets of the various departments.

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Saxony's state administration is to be largely climate-neutral by 2040. This is the main objective of a new master plan approved by the Saxon cabinet, as announced by the Ministry of the Environment.

Part of the plan includes supplying the state's buildings and properties with largely climate-neutral heating, cooling and electricity by 2040 and, in an interim step, halving emissions from vehicle fleets by 2030 compared to 2019. A greenhouse gas balance sheet is also to be drawn up.

Minister: Master plan creates long-term framework

Saxony needs decisive action in all areas for consistent climate protection, which includes a plan and targeted measures for the state administration, said Environment Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) according to the press release.

"It will increase its commitment here with its buildings, vehicles and procurement. The master plan creates an overarching, cross-departmental and long-term framework for this for the first time," said the minister.

By the end of 2025, the departments of the state administration and the State Chancellery are to transparently present how the goals of the master plan will be achieved in their respective business areas. In order to anchor climate protection more firmly, to stabilize the exchange between the departments and to implement the measures in a coordinated manner, a person will be appointed in each department.
