A road traffic census began in Saxony on Tuesday. Until October next year, the number of cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles on the freeways, federal and state roads will be recorded on various days, as announced by the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday. There are a total of 1518 counting points in the state. The surveys are carried out on selected weekdays between 7 am and 6 pm and on two Sundays between 4 pm and 7 pm. The results are supplemented by the evaluation of data from the 80 permanent counting stations in Saxony's road network. Bicycles are also recorded during the manual count.
The traffic count is an important tool for assessing the traffic situation, explained Transport Minister Martin Dulig (SPD). "The figures are the basis for infrastructure planning or the control of traffic lights". Road users are asked to show consideration for the traffic counters, who often have to be close to the edge of the road to carry out their task.
