Local transport prices have been rising for many years. In the area covered by the Upper Elbe Transport Association, bus and train travel will become more expensive again from April.

Bus and train fares in the Dresden region are going up. From April 1, 2025, a single journey in the state capital will increase by 20 cents to 3.40 euros, according to the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO). In the other fare zones, prices will also rise by 20 cents to 3.20 euros.

The prices of other tickets are also going up. Among other things, longer journeys through several fare zones will become 40 to 80 cents more expensive. At 12.20 euros, four-trip tickets will cost 80 cents more than before. Weekly and monthly tickets will be an average of seven percent more expensive.

The VVO justified the price increases with new wage settlements and continued high costs for energy and materials. The budget situation of the special-purpose association is strained.

In addition to the state capital Dresden, the VVO area includes the districts of Meißen, Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge and the western part of the district of Bautzen. According to the association, around 1.2 million people live there.
