Since Monday, police have been monitoring speed in front of selected elementary school in Saxony - together with pupils. According to ADAC Saxony on Wednesday, the annual "Blitz for Kids" campaign is intended to draw the attention of speeders to their misconduct. Until Friday, primary school children will receive yellow cards for minor speeding offenses - and green cards for speeding. During further checks next week at the same location, "rule violations will be consistently punished".
The road safety campaign was launched in 1995. Together with ADAC Saxony, it is intended to draw attention to the special protection of 6 to 15-year-olds on the way to school and during leisure time and to remind them to be particularly careful and considerate. According to the ADAC, around eight percent of the 13,918 vehicles were speeding in 2023, and a fine was issued in 147 cases. According to the data, 1296 children were involved in road traffic accidents last year - compared to 3038 in 1995.
