The Saxony State Flood Center has published a new online game. In it, players slip into the role of local authorities and take measures to prevent flooding.

A new online game aims to sensitize disaster control authorities and water authorities to the issue of flooding. According to a press release issued by the Saxony State Flood Center on Thursday, the game is called "HQ50 - Floods in your community!" and was developed by the State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) in collaboration with a design team for games and interaction. It is part of a training concept for decision-makers in disaster prevention and explores how early flood warnings can be issued in the event of extreme local rainfall events.

In the ten to 15-minute game, players would take on the role of an employee of a local authority, for example. They would be confronted with uncertainties in forecasts of rain and river water levels, would have to obtain and evaluate information and ultimately take measures to prevent flooding.
