The per capita working time in Saxony fell by almost one day last year. As the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday, the workload of an employed person in 2022 averaged 1350 hours - 23 hours less than the previous year. That put the 2022 figure below that of the first Corona year, 2020, when each employed person worked an average of 1360 hours, according to the state office.

According to the data, the volume of work in Saxony has recently decreased, although the number of employed persons has increased slightly. This increase, however, was due to an above-average level of part-time employment, it said. "Furthermore, in addition to two fewer working days in 2022, there was a significant increase in absenteeism due to illness," it said.

The industry with the longest per capita working hours in 2022 in Saxony was construction, with 1541 hours, according to the state office. Of the approximately two million workers who had their jobs in Saxony last year, a total of just under 2.8 billion hours of work had been performed. Thus, the overall economic volume of work decreased by 0.9 percent compared to 2021.
