The ADFC fears that there could be cuts in the construction of cycle paths and safety measures for cyclists in Saxony. A protest action is planned for Wednesday.

In protest against possible cuts to cycle path construction in the 2025/26 double budget, cyclists are planning five symbolic "zero laps" around the Saxon State Chancellery in Dresden on Wednesday. "Saxony urgently needs investment in safe and modern cycling infrastructure," said Janek Mücksch, Chairman of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club Sachsen (ADFC).

The ADFC Saxony is calling for a volume of 40 million euros for cycling in the state. "A tenner per Saxon - that must be possible!" said Mücksch. The association is committed to safe and attractive cycle paths in urban areas and along district and state roads. According to the data, Saxony is currently below the national average when it comes to equipping rural roads with cycle paths. Only 15 percent of state roads have a cycle path, it said.

The 2025/26 budget is due to be passed by parliament in the summer. As the CDU and SPD with their minority government are dependent on ten votes from the opposition, negotiations are still pending until then.
