A total of 243 children and young people were adopted in Saxony in 2022. That was 13 more than in 2021, as the State Statistical Office announced in Kamenz on Monday. The majority of them (62 percent) were adopted by the stepparents, so there was no change in the living situation of the children and adolescents. Almost 40 percent of the children were not related to the adopting parents. Most were children under the age of six.
At the end of 2022, 128 children were reported to be in adoptive care, the trial period for children and potential parents. With the adoption agencies 225 applications were present for 96 children registered for adoption. Thus, there were about two adoption applicants for every child earmarked for adoption.
