Saxony's aviation industry continues to grow. The aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft plans to build a sustainable regional aircraft in the future with a new plant at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

Aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft has given the go-ahead for the construction of its new factory at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The development highlights the strength of Saxony's economy, particularly in the aerospace sector. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the production line of the D328 Eco, a new turboprop aircraft type, was held on Tuesday. Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) attended the event and emphasized the creation of up to 350 jobs through the project.

"The establishment of Deutsche Aircraft in Leipzig is a significant success and confirms Saxony as an attractive business location," Kretschmer said. He emphasized that this is the first final assembly line in aircraft manufacturing in the new German states since reunification. Kretschmer stressed that Deutsche Aircraft was strengthening the aerospace industry in Saxony and was an excellent fit with the existing research facilities, suppliers and maintenance and conversion specialists in Saxony.

The planned assembly line will be built on a site of about 62,000 square meters and is expected to have a production capacity of 48 aircraft per year. In addition to the production hall, a hangar for aircraft delivery, a logistics center and an administration building with parking spaces will also be built.

Götz Ahmelmann, managing director of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, was equally optimistic: "Deutsche Aircraft's new production line will make our Leipzig/Halle Airport a showcase location for sustainable aviation." He emphasized that the new aircraft would set standards in terms of environmentally friendly production and climate-friendly operation.

The new aircraft, equipped with up to 43 seats, will be used for both passenger and transport flights. Deutsche Aircraft emphasizes that it is one of the most modern and environmentally friendly regional aircraft. The company says the production line is designed to be completely CO2-neutral, underscoring its commitment to sustainable development and strengthening the economy in Saxony.
